The Secure Printing Press, Hyderabad (SPPH) and India Government Mint (IGM)—units of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd. (SPMCIL)—regularly conduct recruitment processes for various positions, including Junior Office Assistants. These positions require either English or Hindi typing skills, which are tested in a highly specific Computer-Based Typing Skill Test.

SPMCIL Junior Office Assistant Selection Process

There are mainly two stages of recruitment for the SPMCIL Junior Office Assistant positions:

  • Part I: Computer Based Type Writing Test in Hindi or English (Qualifying Nature)
  • Part II: Objective Type Online Examination

The typing skill test is of qualifying nature only. Candidates must pass Part I to be considered for selection based on Part II marks.

SPMCIL IGM Typing Rules 2026

  • Typing Language: English or Hindi, as opted by the candidate.
  • Typing Font: English typing uses Times New Roman. Hindi typing uses Krutidev or Mangal font on the Inscript Keyboard layout.
  • Passage Length: The English passage consists of approximately 2000 keystrokes. The Hindi passage contains about 1500 keystrokes.
  • Time Duration: 10 minutes for both English and Hindi Typing.

SPMCIL Typing Interface Features:

The typing passage is displayed on the upper half of the screen, and the typing area is provided on the lower half.

The candidate must type the word being highlighted in Red Color. Typed words will be highlighted in gray, but there is no error highlighting.

The Backspace key is partially enabled. It works only while typing the current word. Once the spacebar is pressed, you cannot return to correct the previously typed word.

There is no auto-scrolling in the passage area, and no repetition of the passage is allowed once typing is finished.

Evaluation is calculated character-by-character, strictly using the keystroke formula of 1 word = 5 keystrokes.

SPMCIL Typing Test Error Evaluation (Mathematical Formula)

The SPMCIL Typing Test mathematically evaluates your speed by converting all keystrokes into standard 5-character words. It calculates a "Net Error Word" penalty based on Full and Half mistakes, accounting for specific category error relaxations (e.g., 5% UR).

Step 1: Standardize Gross Words (Mathematical Formula)

Regardless of actual word lengths, SPMCIL universally divides total keystrokes by 5.

Gross_Words = Gross_Keystrokes_Typed / 5

Step 2: Calculate Penalty "Net Error Word" (Mathematical Formula)

Mistakes are categorized into Full (omissions, wrong words) and Half (spelling, capitalization).

Net_Error_Word = (Full_Mistake + Half_Mistake / 2) / 5

Step 3: Calculate Final Net Typing Speed

Your final Net WPM speed is derived over the 10-minute duration after applying the Error Word deduction (accounting for any 5% or 7% category relaxation).

Net_Typing_Speed = (Gross_Words - Net_Error_Word) / 10 Minutes

Practical Example of the Formula

Example
  • A candidate types 1750 keystrokes in 10 minutes.
  • They commit 12 Full Mistakes and 16 Half Mistakes.
  • Gross Words: 1750 / 5 = 350 Words.
  • Net Error Word Penalty: (12 + (16 / 2)) / 5 = 20 / 5 = 4 Penalty Words.
  • Net Speed Calculation: (350 - 4) / 10 = 34.6 WPM.

Typing Thumb Rule:

To improve performance for the SPMCIL typing skill test, start your typing practice without considering the error relaxation and try to minimize errors as close to zero as possible. Because backspace is disabled for past words, focus on typing each word correctly before pressing the spacebar. High accuracy prevents massive speed deductions.

Benefits of Using AR Typing Platform

  • AR Typing offers an exact SPMCIL Interface Simulation with red word highlighting and partial backspace mechanics.
  • The detailed Performance Dashboard calculates your marks and typing speed accurately based on the 5% error relaxation rule.
  • Take timed 10-minute practice tests to master speed and accuracy under real exam stress conditions.
