Start SSC Typing Practice

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) officially releases notifications for CGL and CHSL examinations to fill various positions, including ASO, JSA, LDC, DEO, and DEO Grade A. The typing skill test is a mandatory qualifying round in the selection process for these specific posts.

SSC CHSL & CGL Selection Process

The selection process for the positions of LDC/JSA, DEO/DEO Grade A primarily consists of two stages: Tier I and Tier II. Both stages must be qualified.

  • Tier I: Objective type Computer Based Tests (CBT) consisting of four parts. Each part carries 50 marks. Negative marking of 0.50 marks applies.
  • Tier II: Consists of three sections with two modules each. Section III of Tier II comprises the Computer Knowledge Test and the Skill Test/Typing Test.
  • Mandatory Qualification: It is mandatory to qualify all three sections of Tier II.

SSC CGL & CHSL Typing Speed & Rules

  • The SSC CGL & CHSL Skill Test / Typing Test is purely qualifying in nature.
  • For Data Entry Operator (DEO)/DEO Grade A, the typing content will be in English and may be available in printed format or on-screen.
  • For Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), typing can be done in either English or Hindi as chosen during application submission.
PostsTyping Speed RequiredTime Duration
DEO/DEO Grade A in Para 8.115000 KDPH15 minutes
DEO/DEO Grade A8000 KDPH15 minutes
LDC/ JSA English Typing35 WPM (10500 KDPH)10 minutes
LDC/ JSA Hindi Typing30 WPM (9000 KDPH)10 minutes

SSC Typing Interface Features:

The typing passage shall be displayed on the upper half of the screen, and the designated typing area shall be located directly below it.

There will be no word highlight, no error highlighting, and no auto-scrolling facility available.

The backspace key is fully enabled. You can correct mistakes by deleting previously typed text.

For the posts of DEO/DEO Grade A requiring 15000 KDPH, the passage will consist of about 3700-4000 key depressions. For 8000 KDPH, it will be about 2000-2200 key depressions.

SSC Typing Test Error Evaluation (Mathematical Formula)

The SSC skill test is assessed using the Full Mistake and Half Mistake error calculation rules. Official AI-driven and manual grading systems follow this exact mathematical evaluation framework:

Step 1: Calculate Total Mistakes

Each Half Mistake contributes to 0.5 of a Full Mistake.

Total_Mistakes = Full_Mistakes + (Half_Mistakes / 2)

Step 2: Calculate Error Percentage (Mathematical Formula)

The final error percentage formula differs slightly between SSC CHSL and SSC CGL.

👉 For SSC CHSL Typing (Based on Master Passage Words):

CHSL_Error_Percentage = (Total_Mistakes / Total_Words_Given_in_Passage) * 100

👉 For SSC CGL Typing (Based on Words Typed):

CGL_Error_Percentage = (Total_Mistakes / Total_Words_Typed_by_Candidate) * 100

SSC Error Limit Cutoffs

Cutoff
  • SSC CHSL: The maximum error limit is typically 7% for the UR category, with a 10% relaxation for other categories.
  • SSC CGL: Earlier maximum error limits were 5% for UR, but recent notices showed up to a 20% error limit for UR. Always verify the current year's exact cutoff.

Practical Examples of the Formula

Example
  • Example 1 (SSC CHSL):
    • Master passage contains 350 words.
    • Candidate commits 15 Full and 10 Half Mistakes = 20 Total Mistakes.
    • CHSL Error: (20 / 350) * 100 = 5.71% Error. (Passes 7% Cutoff).
  • Example 2 (SSC CGL):
    • Candidate types 400 words during the test.
    • Candidate commits 25 Full and 10 Half Mistakes = 30 Total Mistakes.
    • CGL Error: (30 / 400) * 100 = 7.50% Error. (Passes 20% Cutoff).

Typing Thumb Rule:

To improve performance for the SSC typing skill test, start your typing practice without considering error relaxation limits. Try to minimize errors as close to 0% as possible. It is vital to practice at or above the required speed (35 WPM / 30 WPM). Make sure to prioritize high accuracy over extreme speed to easily clear the cutoff.

Benefits of Using AR Typing Platform

  • AR Typing offers an exact TCS Interface Simulation for SSC CHSL & CGL (no highlighting, no auto-scroll, backspace enabled).
  • Each practice test generates a detailed Performance Dashboard evaluating your keystrokes strictly according to SSC Full and Half Mistake calculation rules.
  • Familiarize yourself with the exact Krutidev/Mangal layouts for Hindi typing, or standard English typing.
